Oud

Description

The Oud is a stringed instrument and one of the oldest Arabic musical instruments, known for its warm and deep sound. It is considered the sultan of music in Arabic tradition.

Playing Technique

Played using a plectrum (pick) on double strings, with pitch control through pressing the neck with the left hand fingers.

Practical Notes

The Oud requires regular tuning before each playing session. Strings were traditionally made from animal gut but nylon strings are now commonly used.
